Feb. 23 special holiday for all schools to mark 23rd anniversary of EDSA People Power revolt

MANILA (PND) - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has declared Monday, Feb. 23 as special holiday for all private and public schools at all levels throughout the country in observance of the 23rd anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.This was announced yesterday by Executive Secretary Eduardo R. Ermita who signed Proclamation No. 1728 in behalf of the President.

The proclamation states in part:“Whereas, the historic event which restored and ushered political, social and economic reforms in the country, serves as an inspiration to Filipinos everywhere as we continue to chart our collective effort as a nation and as a people xxx it is but fitting that the entire Filipino nation be given the opportunity to observe this milestone in our country’s history.”

2nd prize : One-half of tuition fee free for School Year 2009-2010 (or PhP15,000.00)

Important Note: the option for cash is only available if the child, whose name was drawn, is a fourth year high school student and thus no longer enrolling next year.

Winners of consolation prizes will still be qualified for the major prizes. However, if his name is drawn again, he should choose only one and another name will be drawn for the other prize. Raffle winners shall be drawn the names of our children. In order to qualify for the prize, the person must be present when his name is drawn.

We prepared for these activities confident of your support. So let this letter serve as an invitation for you, and your entire family, to attend our Family Day. Dear Parents,

A Happy Don Bosco Day!

These coming days lead to the 31st of January, the Solemnity of St. John Bosco.

Beginning tomorrow, there will be a special schedule. For the details, please see the timetable given to you through your sons. Here are some guidelines that we would like you to be clear with:

1. January 27-30 are regular class days and thus, the students are obliged to come to school for the Foundation Day Activities.

2. During the Foundation Day Celebrations, the high school students are asked to bring their Student’s Handbook and ID Cards (both School and Foundation Day IDs).

3. These days, the School Uniform is to be worn by the high school students.

4. The students bring extra clothes to be worn for certain activities (outreach, manual work and games).

5. These days, our Bosconians may bring with them mobile phones and electronic gadgets.

6. The time for reporting to school and for going home will vary depending on the timetable for each day.

On Saturday, January 31, the students are not obliged to go to school for the NUV activity. On Sunday, February 1, those who are in-charge of exhibits are asked to come since these will be open to our Mass-goers. On February 2, Monday, there will be no classes. Regular classes resume on February 3, Tuesday.

The second quarter has gone in a flash and we find ourselves past the school year. The second quarterly examinations were done about three weeks ago. Some days after, during your sons’ brief respite from school, our teachers took part in the 3rd Educational Congress of the Don Bosco Schools in the Salesian Northern Philippine Province.

As the evaluations for the past quarter have already been put into place, we would like to invite you for a GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF PARENTS this Sunday, November 9 at the Don Bosco College Gymnasium at 8:30am.
We would like to use this forum for the communication of some important matters by Father Rector, Fr. Luisito Castañeda, who will be the one to preside over the mass and will give the talk immediately afterwards. Please note that this address of Fr. Rector will be of utmost importance.

Dear Parents,Greetings of peace!We have breezed through the First Quarter of the Scholastic Year 2008-2009 and it is now time for our students, your sons to reap the fruits of what they have sown in their studies for these past three months. This Sunday, will be a special day in this regard; it will be the time to gather the parents of our Bosconians once again.

We will have a GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF PARENTS this Sunday, September 7 at the Don Bosco College Gymnasium.
We take advantage of this assembly to have the thanksgiving mass of our new priest, Rev. Fr. Keith Michael T. Simbulan, SDB, our very own Assistant Principal for Pastoral Affairs (APPA) with the parents. Fr. Kim, as he is fondly called, was recently ordained—last August 16—at the National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, in Parañaque. With the Mass of the newly ordained comes a lot of blessings and graces.

Likewise, we will hold in this occasion a short formation of the parents immediately after the Mass. It will be in the form of a thirty minute talk about “What Makes Don Bosco Special”, or what makes your son’s school different from other schools. This will be conducted by Fr. Dennis Sylvester Casaclang, SDB.

Shrine to Shrine

Last August 16, 2008, the day after the feast of the Assumption and day of commemoration of the 197th birthday of Don Bosco marked an important day for the students and teachers of Don Bosco College High School Department. It was the first ever Marian pilgrimage for Bosconians in its 10 years of existence as a high school department. They called the event 'Shrine to Shrine' as it moved from the Diocesan Shrine of MHC in Canlubang to the National Shrine of MHC at Parañaque.
The pilgrimage began with a talk from Bro. Jomar Castillo, SDB, a member of the pioneer batch from the High School and now a Salesian Brother. He shared with the HS students his insightful memories of the Canlubang MHC Shrine, which has become instrumental in deepening his devotion to Mary and led him to discover his Salesian vocation. The pilgrimage was led by two pioneer teachers, Ms. Iryne Decena and Mrs. Julita Manaig.
The fact that it also corresponded nicely with Fr Kim's ordination was not by chance. He was their very own 'Catechist', and the school was there to support him.
It is also a good thing to note that in 1998 the department only started with one class consisting of 48 students with a handful of Salesian and lay teachers. Now the department has 10 sections for its tenth year and still growing as it marked another milestone in the history of Don Bosco Canlubang. Don Bosco high school boasts of its graduates now holding key positions in different fields in society here and abroad, and even joining the best in national board examinations.
This is only a proof that Bosconians live by their motto Ad Maiora Natus.

Last June 10, 2008, the scholastic year 2008-2009 began for the High School Deparment of Don Bosco College.The first activity of the school year was the morning prayer culminating with the singing of St. John Bosco, Our Loving Father. Fr. Joel Camaya, SDB (Principal) introduced to the student body the new rector of Don Bosco College, Fr. Louie Castañeda, SDB who gave his first Good Morning Talk. This was immediately followed by the introduction of the magisterium--the different persons who are directly involved in the high school department as teachers, faculty and staff members. On this first day was held the Orientation for all the Bosconians.

Last June 13, the members of the different departments of Don Bosco College gathered in the Gym to celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit as an inauguration of the new academic year. Fr. Louie Castañeda, Rector, presided. Concelebrating were the rectors of the two other Salesian Communities: Fr. Rolo Alcasid (Seminary and Prenovitiate) and Fr. Rey dela Cruz (Posnovitiate), and other priests. It was immediately followed by the introduction of the different members of the Educative Pastoral Community of Don Bosco College, Canlubang.

GUIDELINES IN TAKING EXAMINATIONS

A student is required to secure an examination permit from the Accounting Office which he is to present to the proctor prior to taking his examinations. No students shall be allowed to take the examination without the validated permit from the Accounting the Office.
Student should proceed to the classroom assigned to them for their examinations.
There will be two bell signals. The first bell is for the students to form their lines, and the second bell will be for the students to keep quiet, then proceed to their assigned classrooms, and start their examination.
There will be breaks in between periods of examination for the students to attend to their personal needs. No student is allowed to go out (Comfort room, drinking fountain) of the classroom once the examinations have started
An examinee that comes late is not entitled to any extension of the examination period.
Only the examination paper/s, a ball pen, and the permit should be on top of the examinee’s armchair (unless the equipment / paraphernalia are required by the subject teacher); other materials are considered cheating materials. Strictly NO BORROWING OF EQUIPMENT / PARAPHERNALIA.
CHEATING is a major offense. A student caught cheating is given a final score of zero in that particular exam.
An examinee may quietly leave the examination classroom only after having officially submitted the test paper to the proctor. He is not allowed to loiter around the corridors as well as in the rooms where examinations take place.

HS, college classes suspended Friday for SK listingMalacañang announced the suspension of high school and college classes on Friday for the extended registration of voters for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in October.The Palace declared Friday a special holiday for high school and college students and encouraged them to register as voters for the youth elections on October 29.The extended listing will run until Saturday.The extension came in the wake of criticisms hurled at the Commission on Elections for its alleged failure to set up a systematic way of registration for first-time voters who have reached the legal voting age of 18.

25 Years with Don Bosco!

Today as I was assisting the boys in the playground, a thought suddenly came to me. It was around this time 25 years ago that I entered Don Bosco (in Tarlac) as a student! Yes, this year, I am 25 years a Bosconian! I have always considered that day as a point of reference in my life.I looked at the first year boys and I remembered my first days as a Bosconian, albeit I was younger then, at grade four. But I am sure many things are the same for our Benjamins. There is the novelty of being able to run around freely, even play basketball or football during breaks. There were the Salesians who moved around chatting with the students—“wasting time” with them. These were the very things that touched me in those days and those that greatly influenced me to remain in Don Bosco, the seed that led me later on to decide to become a Salesian.In these musings I realize that this year is indeed a moment of grace; I have thought about this only today: that after 25 years I would be working closely with Bosconians. In 1982, I was welcomed by Salesians to a Don Bosco school; 25 years later I, a Salesian myself, am welcoming new students in a Don Bosco school. Indeed, what goes around comes around!With this reflection I have invited those working in this apostolate--both Salesians and lay educators alike: make the first days of our Bosconians pleasantly memorable. That was my experience, my very own.

When given a chance to talk to young people, I often touch on the topic of change. I usually introduce two Latin phrases that usually accompany this subject matter: the terminus a quo and the terminus ad quem—the “end from which” and the “end towards which”, respectively translated into layman’s terms as what it was before the change and what it would become.I have always believed that education is a process and thus involves change in the mind of the one who undergoes this event. But much more than this is the greater scheme: the whole picture of the process of learning that involves not only the one who is educated but also everyone involved in the educative process: the educator, the other students, the parents, the environment. There is therefore a great power in education that effects change practically in the whole community. I am reminded of a documentary television program that featured how coins are polished. The coins are made to look new once again by being mixed with other coins, all of which are continually rubbed with the others’ surface. In time, they all change each other—polished and smooth.We undergo that polishing in this process of change. We are at the beginning of this school year—the terminus a quo. Altogether we move from this end and open ourselves to change.

WELCOME to School Year 2007-2008!

Last Thursday, June 7, 2007, the scholastic year 2007-2008 began for the High School Deparment of Don Bosco College.

The first activity of the school year was the morning prayer culminating with the singing of Hail Don Bosco.

Fr. Joel Camaya, SDB (Principal) introduced to the student body the new rector of Don Bosco College, Fr. Rolo Alcasid, SDB who gave his first Good Morning Talk.

This was immediately followed by the introduction of the magisterium--the different persons who are directly involved in the high school department as teachers, faculty and staff members.

These first two days of the school year, Thursday and Friday, are meant to be orientation days for the Bosconians.
